Born in a forest of millennium oaks, in 1977, Sylvestre has spent most of his childhood climbing trees and observing nature.. and later on surfing waves around the globe. Sylvestre was a sculptor before being born, always with things and tools in his hands and his imagination would do the rest, extremely sensitive, perceptive and a bit shy.
He graduated at the Accademia Belle Arti of Carrara and worked then in various institutional art studios in Pietrasanta where he mastered his techniques of carving marble, especially monumental pieces. His sculptures are now present in public and private collections in the major cultural capitals around the globe, such as Paris, London, Rome, Amsterdam, Hong-Kong, Dubai… and Pietrasanta where he works and lives today.

Nelle sculture recenti di Sylvestre Gauvrit si avverte un passaggio importante, e nel suo caso probabilmente inevitabile, da forme con un riferimento oggettivo (divertente e imprevedibile come può esserlo quello alla forma della “pasta” alimentare, trascinata suo malgrado nell’universo nobile della scultura in marmo), al livello metafisico della forma pura. E’ un punto di arrivo, perché già in quelle sculture che ingigantivano e rimodellavano le forme più quotidiane e “usate” della vita, la finalità non era quella di proporre l’ennesimo oggetto neo-pop, ma quella di portarci a riflettere e a godere di elementi assoluti, linee, volumi, luce, ombra, materia, elasticità, equilibrio.
