As a maker, it is the seemingly endless possibilities that are really exciting. Countless existing skills, techniques, processes and materials to learn about.
Potentially innumerable new skills, techniques, processes and materials to create. Inspiration for Vessel and Mortar came from two places, the shapes of the waste marble that were presented to us by Carrara Design Factory and the Etruscans. The Etruscans created large cylindrical mortars with a spherical pestles, they were some of the earliest manipulators of stone in the region where the marble for my design comes from.
The piece that was selected by Carrara Design Factory during the Montalcino designer Residency 2016 organized by MOS ,is a modern version of an antique mortar.
